Fellow artist Ellis Goodson came over today and I think Peaches likes Ellis. She’s pretty skittish normally, but has gotten where she wants to play with him.

Kaneda from my sketchbook. When I was in art school in the late ‘80s one of the instructors showed the class a untranslated copy of AKIRA. we couldn’t understand a word, but the images were so amazing it was burned into my brain and had a huge influence on me.

Process shots of a job. I thought the slums were more crowded, but after feedback I spaced the buildings out a little. Once a few more scenes are done I’ll ink them. This sort of job is quick for me and cheap for the customer. If you need something like this drop me a line scottdsackett@gmail.com and we’ll figure out if I can help you.

maisonimmonen: CENTIFOLIA TWO-FOR-ONE SALE We recently consolidated our storage and have unearthed the last remaining copies of the infamous Centifolia sketchbooks. These books will not be reprinted and quantities, particularly for the first volume, are limited. In the interest of reclaiming our front hall, we are offering both volumes for the price of one, regular shipping rates apply. Please reblog. This is such a good deal on a great sketchbook I’m buying backup copies.

I inked my Hulk sketch from the other day. I used a Pentel sign pen, a felt tip pen with a pretty flexible tip. It gives a nice bold line like a sharpie, but with a little more point on the end and a lot more variation in the line.

Ink doodles from my sketchbook. I’m not crazy about the new Iron Man design. I wish they’d have gone more manga influenced and kept his ‘pods’ on his waist (which I don’t think he’s had for awhile.)

#3 in my series of San Diego Comic-con sketches I am drawing to lament not being at the show. This is the Gas Lamp district just north of the convention. This is the Old Spaghetti Factory, you can see the round top of the convention center in the background.

A Touch of Brimstone from my sketchbook. I have been watching ‘60s show The Avengers recently. I became aware of this show when I was a kid from seeing memorabilia for sale at cons and from the X-Men 'Dark Pheonix Saga’ which borrowed imagery and concepts from the episode A Touch of Brimstone. If you haven’t seen The Avengers tv series, there is a Emma Peel boxset that collects all the episodes with Diana Rigg and I highly recommend it.

San Diego Comicon from my sketchbook. The San Diego Comicon is this week. I’m not going but doing a series of con sketches. This is number 2 in the series. When you have a pro badge you get to skip the outside line and wait in the lobby. On preview night, it was always awesome to wander around the lobby and see the lines outside the door.

San Diego Comicon Sails Pavilion from my sketchbook. The big convention is this week and I’m not going. I went for about 10 years but I haven’t been in a few. It’s a fun show, but it’s gotten too expensive for the return for me, I’d rather spend my time & money going to smaller shows where you have more access to editors & fellow creators. Still SDCC is a fun trip and I hope one day I can justify returning professionally. This drawing is the Sails Pavillion above the main floor, this is facing north. In the ‘00s this is where you got general tickets (seen in the background). To the right, smaller publishers and game companies would hold portfolio reviews. My buddy Dave is in the foreground.
