eatgeekplay: Sean Von Gorman is quite a multi-talented individual. Not only is he the illustrator behind the punk rock zombie comic Toe Tag Riot and other titles, but he’s also an escape artist as well. Keep reading for Sean’s mixtape! GERARD WAY – MAYA THE PSYCHIC I went to see Gerard Way a few months back for the Hesitant Alien Tour. This was one of my favorite songs from the night. Now it’s in my “Drawing Comics” rotation. THE AQUABATS! – FASHION ZOMBIES I’ve had the good fortune to come across these chaps in my travels and they are some of the nicest guys ever. The general idea of their music is “This song is silly but we’re having fun so just go with it” There is no denying the cool factor of this track. AMANDA PALMER – THE KILLING TYPE A few years back, Neil Gaiman had me perform my straitjacket routine at Amanda’s Brooklyn Block Party to celebrate the success of her massive Kickstarter for her album “Theater is Evil” After the gig Neil gave me a water gun and invited me to the after party where Amanda and her band played a private show and this was one of the songs she played. That was a good night. HARVEY DANGER – FLAGPOLE SITTA This is kind of the best song ever. This is usually the song I break out of straitjackets to. HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH – THE ORIGIN OF LOVE This soundtrack is in steady rotation when I draw. I dig long form story songs that are epic. THIS GOOD ROBOT – SUPER SPY Long Island-based nerdy rock band. I did the album art for this track based on Matt Kindt’s “Red Heiney” from his “Super Spy” series. I opened for them with my band The Super Secret Side Project for them at a show during NYCC last year. Later that night I hijacked their set during their rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody” dress as Freddy Mercury. Being Freddy is harder than it looks. U2 – A DAY WITHOUT ME I really relate to early U2. This is a track of their first album Boy. Before they were one of the biggest band of all time they were just a couple of kids trying to teach themselves how to play Ramones and Rolling Stones songs and were just terrible. They couldn’t figure out how to sound like other bands so they decided to develop a sound that fit the way they played. That’s sort of how I think of the way I make comics. I couldn’t be anyone else beside myself. This album as a whole still has such a crisp sound that still sounds fresh and new over 40 years later. MEATLOAF – BAT OUT OF HELL Bat Out of Hell is on here for two reasons. 1) it’s a great effin’ album and 2) it has some of the best cover art ever. My Mom had a copy on vinyl growing up and it was display as a painting in my room for years. One of the most epic images in human history. Sean can be found on Twitter @VonGormanArt , #AmandaPalmer, #GerardWay, #HarveyDanger, #HedwigAndTheAngryInch, #Meatloaf, #SeanVonGorman, #TheAquabats, #ThisGoodRobot, #U2, amanda palmer, gerard way, harvey danger, hedwig and the angry inch, meatloaf, sean von gorman, the aquabats, this good robot, u2 Sean Von Gorman is a super-multi talented guy, someone I’m glad to know and a critical stone in the path of my comic career! Look for his punk rock zombie book Toe Tag Riot!
