Cleaning my studio I came across a flyer for the Virgin Megastore. There wasn’t one in Oklahoma City, but when my wife got out of school we went to Disneyworld a few times and that’s where I first came across the Megastore. At the time (mid ‘90s) it was impossible to get overseas comics and they had tons of them at the megastore. I filled huge holes in my Moebius & Masamune Shirow collection. It seems like they were always clearing out that stuff and I got some deals. Eventually they opened a shop in Dallas and when we started visiting NYC I loved the one in Times Square. The last time I visited the store in NYC I had a weird experience where I went to the basement level. Suddenly, it hit me I was the only person in the room. After a week of the crush of NYC, the realization of 'I am alone’ swept over me in a wave of self realization. It was a strange experience that imprinted itself on my psyche. IIRC, I got this coupon in the mail and saved it, but they closed before I got a chance to use it. I saved it because I liked the design. I will glue it inside my sketchbook as token of the past and a reminder of what’s gone.
