I don’t know where or when this photo was taken, but it reminds me of a ’70s Roger Moore/James Bond film.

A page of gestures drawn for the X-Men trading cards Marvel put out in the ’90s. Drawn by the amazing Jim Lee, I found these when I got back into comics and they really captured my imagination and I still find them very interesting.

I visited The National Western Heritage Museum in Okc today with fellow artist Ellis Goodson. I made a lot of sketches here’s some of them. The blue is a Colerase pencil. The ink sketches are my spanking new Kuretake brush pen. I’m not a natural brush user so it’s a little rough. But I’ve never been afraid to make some bad art to learn new skills, playing it safe never pays. Besides it’s fun to sling a bunch of ink on the page and have faith it’ll look okay when it’s done. The museum has some rules about tools you cannot use but I didn’t see any rule about Japanese brush pens. Still when the security guard came over to talk to us I was conscious of the wet ink on my sketchbook and hands. It seems Ellis and I talk to a lot of security guards. They’re just doing their jobs and we’re doing ours.

weirdellis: Went to the Cowboy and western heritage museum with Scott Sackett. Copied a lot of Frederic Remington horse poses. Here’s a few. The big cougar is called canyon princess. It weighs 8 tons. Made from a 31 ton block of marble. The big headed Indian painting is Charles Russell sculpts for ref for magazine illustratiions. A shaman that paints the color schemes onto bugs. Ellis’s report on our trip today.

frenden: I see some folks feeling lesser-than because they make digital, not analog, art. They shouldn’t. Don’t sweat the analog-digital divide. The muscle memory acquired for mark making is nearly the same. Each takes skill and practice and share more in common than they don’t. Color theory, composition, and storytelling are universal regardless of the method of art creation. Mark making is mark making. Knowing where and why to put a mark is just as important as knowing how. Is electric guitar any less an art form than acoustic? No. Is digital art inferior to analog? No. It’s just different. Let yourself off the hook. I’ve learned to give myself permission to worry about what I’m making and not how I’m making it.

inki-drop: nocturnenebula: I might eventually go and edit this but Likes can only go so far for artists. Artists may exclusively upload their artwork to tumblr, or don’t have the time to use other sites and prefer tumblr over deviantART due to its simplicity, but the tagging system can make it harder to navigate. Many artists on tumblr tag with high-traffic tags or use their own tags to prevent tag clogging which eventually become lost. That’s why it’s very important to reblog an artist’s work. I’m not trying to push you to ruin your blog’s aesthetic or something, nor am I saying that “you must absolutely reblog your favourite artist’s work or you’re trash”, all I’m saying is if you truly want to support your favourite artist, instead of just liking their posts, try to reblog them once in a while. The more reblogs they receive, the more exposure/notes/followers they may receive, and it’s just one of the easiest ways to show you care about them. *This does not mean to reblog unsourced artwork or works reuploaded to another person’s blog without permission (re:stolen). Nor does this mean to reblog artworks without the artist’s consent, even if this case is slim. Reblogging is vital if you want your favorite artists to keep on making the art you love! Reblog forever~~~

I have an ASUS Viviotab Note 8, which is a windows 8 tablet with a Wacom stylus that is the size of an iPad mini. Mine has manga studio on it and I’m currently installing Autodesk Sketchbook Pro 7. I have to go through hoops to install stuff and it’s a little small for serious projects, but it’s cool, very mobile tool for layouts and quick sketches.
